Matthew 6:9-13 New Living Translation
9 Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
10 May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today the food we need,
12 and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
13 And don't let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
Compare with Matthew 6:9-13 New International Version
9"This, then, is how you should pray: "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'
Compare with Matthew 6:9-13 MOT (Pastor Chris’ Translation)
9Therefore, pray thus: Our Father, the One in the heavens; holy (hallowed) shall be your name. 10Let your Kingdom come; let your will come about as in heaven, also on earth. 11Give us today our bread for today and for the coming day. 12And forgive us the debts (sins, wrongs) of us as we also forgave our debtors (those who have sinned against us or wronged us.) 13And do not bring us into temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I know you are the One, true and living God who alone is holy! Fill me with Your Holy Spirit that I may also be holy, that my life may reflect Yours in me. Glorify Yourself in my life today that others will come to know You as God, and Your Son, Jesus as Lord! This I pray in His name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
may your name be kept holy.
What does it mean to you to keep God’s name holy?
Name one practical thing you will do today to keep God’s name holy!
Today’s Challenge: I will live as one set apart by God, so others may see His holiness!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Sometimes my attitude toward You may become too casual. I pray that You will forgive me for any time when I see You as anything other than what You are: The omnipotent Creator, the loving Redeemer, and the ever-present Sustainer of humanity. Let me live in awe of You as well as experiencing Your constant grace. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
hallowed be your name,
What’s the difference between “holy” and “hallowed”?
What will you do today to hallow God’s name?
Today’s Challenge: I will live in victory over sin today by calling on the Holy Spirit to instill His spirit of holiness in me!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for being holy, for being worthy of our worship and praise. Thank You for always being true and for offering Jesus as the Way, the Truth and the Life for us. Live in me today that I may be a bold witness of Your life, which is truly life! This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
holy (hallowed) shall be your name.
Why do you suppose that the original Greek has the verb in the future tense?
What will you do today and everyday to keep God’s holiness in your life?
Today’s Challenge: I will honor God today and tomorrow—and everyday He gives me that my life may be a testimony to others of His holiness!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for setting the standard so high that only as we live in the power of Your Holy Spirit may we ever hope to attain it in our lives. Thank You for being holy and calling us to be holy as well. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit that I may live the reality of holiness in my life today and always. This I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
1The LORD also said to Moses, 2“Give the following instructions to the entire community of Israel. You must be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy. Leviticus 19:1-2 NLT
Why do you suppose that God made this command part of being an Israelite?
How would holiness distinguish the Israelites from the nations surrounding them? How does it distinguish us today?
Today’s Challenge: By God’s grace, I will live today as part of God’s holy people!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for setting me and all followers of Jesus apart, just as You set apart the Israelites so long ago. I know that in my own power I cannot live up to the standard you set, so fill me afresh with Your Holy Spirit that I may live boldly and confidently the life of holiness You set before us. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
26You must be holy because I, the LORD, am holy. I have set you apart from all other people to be my very own. Leviticus 20:26 NLT
What did it mean for the Israelites to be set apart from all other people as God’s very own?
What does that statement mean for us who live on the resurrection side of Easter?
Today’s Challenge: I will live as one who is in this world, but not of it!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I know that You call all the “godly ones” to sing to You, and to Praise Your Holy name! Right now, I pause to praise You and to call on You to prepare me to live today as a “godly one,” and also to prepare my heart for corporate worship with my brothers and sisters at New Life tomorrow. This I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
4Sing to the LORD, all you godly ones! Praise his holy name.
Psalm 30:4 NLT
Why do you suppose King David challenged us to Sing to the Lord and Praise His holy name?
What does that look like in your daily life?
Today’s Challenge: I will sing to the Lord and Praise Him today, regardless of my circumstances!
