Matthew 6:9-13 New Living Translation
9Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
10May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
11Give us today the food we need,
12and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
13And don't let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
Compare with Matthew 6:9-13 New International Version
9"This, then, is how you should pray: "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'
Compare with Matthew 6:9-13 MOT (Pastor Chris’ Translation)
9Therefore, pray thus: Our Father, the One in the heavens; holy (hallowed) shall be your name. 10Let your Kingdom come; let your will come about as in heaven, also on earth. 11Give us today our bread for today and for the coming day. 12And forgive us the debts (sins, wrongs) of us as we also forgave our debtors (those who have sinned against us or wronged us.) 13And do not bring us into temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for sending Jesus to the earth to show us Your will first hand! Fill me with Your Holy Spirit right now that I may not only know, but also LIVE Your will in my life today. This I pray in the strong name of Jesus, amen!
Reflection on God’s Word:
10 May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10 NLT
What, if anything, does this portion of the Lord’s Prayer tell us about going to heaven?
What is the point of this petition in the Lord’s Prayer?
Today’s Challenge: I will live in the power of the Holy Spirit today so I may DO God’s will!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I find it is so easy to pray, “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” but extremely hard to live out that request. Fill me again with Your Holy Spirit that I may not only pray the words of the Lord’s Prayer, but also live them out to Your glory. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
10your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10 NIV
What differences are there in the way this statement is expressed in the NIV as opposed to the NLT (See yesterday’s Reflection on God’s Word)? Are these differences significant? Why or why not?
What one thing will you do today to make this verse a reality?
Today’s Challenge: I will put God’s will first in my life today!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, How amazing it would be to have Your will come about on earth as it is already is in heaven! Pour out Your Holy Spirit not only in my life, but in the life of all believers that we may be part of this petition becoming a reality! This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
10Let your Kingdom come; let your will come about as in heaven, also on earth. Matthew 6:10 MOT
What differences do you see in the MOT from the NLT and NIV? Are they significant? Why or why not?
What would it look like if God’s will was done here on earth as it already is in heaven?
Today’s Challenge: I will be an agent of God’s will in every area of my life today!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Ever since Jesus walked the earth Your Kingdom has been “near.” Jesus told us that Your Kingdom is “within us.” I pray that I will live in such a way as to show others Your Kingdom, and to reflect Your will in every area of my life. This I pray in Jesus’ name and for the sake of His coming Kingdom! Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
17From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” Matthew 4:17
What does it mean to “repent of our sins and turn to God”?
Why is the first step in the coming of the Kingdom of God?
Today’s Challenge: I will turn away from my sins and toward God!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I desire to be great in the Kingdom of God, so I pray that You will fill me with Your Holy Spirit that I may live out Your commands and show others how to live them as well. Keep me walking in Your truth, and let me be a light for others to follow, too. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
19So if you ignore the least commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God’s laws and teaches them will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. Matthew 5:19
What is required for us to become “great” in the Kingdom of heaven?
What will you do today to become great in that way?
Today’s Challenge: I will obey God’s commands, and thus demonstrate His greatness in my life!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, as this week of focusing on Your will being done on earth as it is in heaven draws to a close, I pray once again that You will fill me and all Your followers with the Holy Spirit that we may model Your will to others. Use us to glorify Yourself and to draw others into Your Kingdom. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
10 May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
What is the one thing that will most insure that this petition of the Lord’s Prayer becomes a reality among us?
Will you do it?
Today’s Challenge: I will put Jesus and His Kingdom first today and always!
