Matthew 6:9-13 New Living Translation
9Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
10May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
11Give us today the food we need,
12and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
13And don't let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
Compare with Matthew 6:9-13 New International Version
9"This, then, is how you should pray: "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'
Compare with Matthew 6:9-13 MOT (Pastor Chris’ Translation)
9Therefore, pray thus: Our Father, the One in the heavens; holy (hallowed) shall be your name. 10Let your Kingdom come; let your will come about as in heaven, also on earth. 11Give us today our bread for today and for the coming day. 12And forgive us the debts (sins, wrongs) of us as we also forgave our debtors (those who have sinned against us or wronged us.) 13And do not bring us into temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
For yours is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for the Church’s addition to the Lord’s Prayer which puts an “exclamation point” on it! Yours IS the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever, and I praise You that one day by the grace of Jesus in my life, I will get to experience that eternal Kingdom. I thank You, too, that by the Holy Spirit living in me, I may live that Kingdom life here and now! This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
For Yours is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
These words are not in the Lord’s Prayer as given to us by Jesus. Why do you think that the Church would have added them through the ages?
What impact does this closing statement make that was not made in Jesus’ original prayer?
Today’s Challenge: I will live in the power of the Holy Spirit that I may demonstrate Kingdom living today!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, eternity is beyond my comprehension as a finite being, but I thank You for putting eternity in our hearts, and by the blood of Jesus making eternity a part of every believer’s future. I pray that I will live in the power of that blood today that I may encourage others to join Jesus’ family, too. This I pray in His name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
For Yours is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Some traditions close the Lord’s Prayer with the phrase “forever and ever,” instead of just “forever.” Why do you think they would do that? Does it change the meaning?
How will you live out eternity in your life today?
Today’s Challenge: I will live as one who belongs to God’s eternal Kingdom, and share that hope with others I meet today!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, One day I will be with You in heaven, because of Jesus’ salvation in my life. I thank You for the image in today’s Scripture that reminds me ahead of time that You and You alone, are worthy to receive all glory and honor and power! Let me live with You in first place in my life today and always. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
9Whenever the living beings give glory and honor and thanks to the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever), 10the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever). And they lay their crowns before the throne and say, 11“You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.” Revelation 4:9-11 NLT
What does this scene from heaven tell us about our future there?
Why does the Scripture tell us that God is worthy to receive glory, honor and power?
Today’s Challenge: I will glorify God in my life today, by humbling myself before Him in all that I think, say and do!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You again for Jesus’ model prayer. I pray that as I reflect on it today, that I will see again all it calls me to be and do that will bring You glory and draw others to Yourself. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
9Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
10May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. 11Give us today the food we need, 12and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. 13And don't let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one. For Yours is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
What do you see in the prayer today that you have never noticed before?
What do you need to do today to live it out more fully?
Today’s Challenge: I will live in the power of the Holy Spirit that others may see the influence of our heavenly Father at work in me!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray that the Lord’s Prayer will never be just words, or “vain repetition” in my life, but that it will always serve to draw me closer to You and to challenge me to live my life fully devoted to You. This I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
9"This, then, is how you should pray: "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.' For Yours is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
What is the most important part of the Lord’s Prayer for you to apply right now? Why?
How are you going to apply it today?
Today’s Challenge: I will live the Lord’s Prayer in my life today so that others will experience Jesus through me!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, As our series on the Lord’s Prayer draws to a close, I pray that You will write it’s words and truth on my heart that I may live it out in every area of my life, and every sphere of influence. This I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
9Therefore, pray thus: Our Father, the One in the heavens; holy (hallowed) shall be your name. 10Let your Kingdom come; let your will come about as in heaven, also on earth. 11Give us today our bread for today and for the coming day. 12And forgive us the debts (sins, wrongs) of us as we also forgave our debtors (those who have sinned against us or wronged us.) 13And do not bring us into temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
For Yours is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
What one thing will you do today to show others the reality of the Lord’s Prayer’s power to transform us?
Today’s Challenge: I will put God first, and call on His Spirit to empower me that I may live fully in and for Him!
