20Then the man—Adam—named his wife Eve, because she would be the mother of all who live. 21And the LORD God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.
22Then the LORD God said, “Look, the human beings have become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!” 23So the LORD God banished them from the Garden of Eden, and he sent Adam out to cultivate the ground from which he had been made. 24After sending them out, the LORD God stationed mighty cherubim to the east of the Garden of Eden. And he placed a flaming sword that flashed back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.
Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, as we focus again this week on the “fall” of humanity and turn to the consequences of it, I confess to You again that I often fall into temptation and sin. I praise You for sending Jesus to shed His blood on the cross to pay the penalty for that sin, and to give me new life. I pray today that You will fill me with Your Holy Spirit that I may not sin against You, but may live a holy life! This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
20Then the man—Adam—named his wife Eve, because she would be the mother of all who live. Genesis 3:20 NLT
What is the significance of Adam naming his wife? Why didn’t she choose her own name?
Why do you think that God continued the human race even after the fall?
Today’s Challenge: I will turn to God in every time of temptation that I may not fall away from Him today!
Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, I thank You that Your blessings in our lives aren’t based on our obedience, but on Your love. I pray that as You provided for Adam and Eve’s basic needs that You will also provide for mine. I thank You in advance for Your provision this day, and ask that as You bless me, I will bless others. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
21And the LORD God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife. Genesis 3:21 NLT
Why do you think God made clothing for Adam and Eve when they didn’t actually need clothes?
What significance is there in the clothing being made from animal skins (implying that God had to kill the animals for them to have clothing)?
Today’s Challenge: I will rely on God for all my needs and thank Him for His provision in my life!
Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, I thank You for not permitting Adam and Eve to live forever in their fallen condition of sin. I thank You that as human beings we don’t live forever in this life where the consequences of sin still prevail, but that You have made a way for us to live eternally in heaven with You through Jesus. Empower me by Your Spirit to focus on that home in the heavens, and to reach out to everyone around me with the good news of eternal life through Jesus. I pray this in His name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
22Then the LORD God said, “Look, the human beings have become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!” Genesis 3:22 NLT
What would be wrong with Adam and Eve living forever?
Why does God refer to Himself as “us”?
Today’s Challenge: I will trust God’s plan rather than mine in all areas of life!
Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, today’s scripture shows us of another consequence of human sin. I pray that You will fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that I will not sin and bring about negative consequences on me or those around me. To put that positively, let me live in Your grace and love and thus show the life of Jesus to all around me! This I pray in His name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
23So the LORD God banished them from the Garden of Eden, and he sent Adam out to cultivate the ground from which he had been made. Genesis 3:23 NLT
What would be the additional consequences of Adam and Eve being cast out of Eden?
Why do you think Moses emphasized that Adam had been made from the ground?
Today’s Challenge: I will work diligently and use the gifts and skills God has given me to be faithful to Him!
Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, Your ways are beyond our ways, and Your thoughts are beyond our thoughts. I pray today that You would give me the mind of Jesus that I may think, speak and act in ways that glorify You, and draw others to Your Kingdom. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
24After sending them out, the LORD God stationed mighty cherubim to the east of the Garden of Eden. And he placed a flaming sword that flashed back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life. Genesis 3:24 NLT
Why do you think God took such great measures to ensure that Adam and Eve would not return to the Garden of Eden?
Why do you think no one has ever found the Garden?
Today’s Challenge: I will call on God to empower me to think, speak and act like Jesus today!
Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, thank You for Your great love and mercy, that provided care for Adam and Eve, and which has provided the way out of sin and bondage through Jesus. I pray that I may so live today that others may see You in me, and be drawn to the truth of Your salvation. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection on God’s Word:
22Then the LORD God said, “Look, the human beings have become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!” Genesis 3:22 NLT Revisited
What are the ultimate consequences of sin?
Why do we still engage in it, when we know the consequences?
Today’s Challenge: I will trust God to guide me today and always!
