The Game Plan

The Game Plan: Noticing and Welcoming Guests

To create a welcoming environment where every guest will be valued and desire to become part of New Life’s fellowship.

God’s Word for You: Hebrews 13:1-3 New Living Translation

1Keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters.  2Don't forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!  3Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies.

Monday

Reflection on The Play Book:  Hebrews 13:1 NLT
1Keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters.

What is necessary for you to keep this command?

Why would Christians need to be reminded to keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters?

The Game Plan:  Take a Knee!  Prayer Focus for the Day!
Take time right now to lift up at least three brothers/sisters in the Lord, and ask Jesus to bless them today!

Today’s Challenge:  I will seek ways to show the love of Jesus to my brothers and sisters in Him today!

Tuesday

Reflection on The Play Book:  Hebrews 13:1 NLT
1Keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters.

When do you find it easiest to love Christian brothers and sisters?  When do you find it the most challenging?  Why?

Give a couple of specific examples of what it looks like to keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters.

The Game Plan:  Take a Knee!  Prayer Focus for the Day!
Invest some time in prayer for those who are in your biological family.  If they are brothers and sisters in Jesus—give thanks.  If they are not, offer a prayer of intercession that they may come to know Him as Savior and Lord!

Today’s Challenge:  I will be an example to my biological family of the love of Jesus in practical ways throughout the day!

Wednesday

Reflection on The Play Book:  Hebrews 13:2 NLT
2Don't forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!

What does our culture tell us about relating to strangers?

How can we show reasonable care when interacting with strangers and still fulfill the command in this verse?

The Game Plan:  Take a Knee!  Prayer Focus for the Day!
If you are naturally prone to show hospitality, thank God for this gift.  If you are naturally cautious with strangers, ask God to give you His wisdom in interacting with them in hospitality.

Today’s Challenge:  I will take the initiative to be welcoming to strangers I may meet today for Jesus’ sake!

Thursday

Reflection on The Play Book:  Hebrews 13:2 NLT
2Don't forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!

Do you think that we ever have the opportunity to entertain angels?  Why or why not?

What does it look like in real life to show hospitality to strangers in an era of “stranger danger”?

The Game Plan:  Take a Knee!  Prayer Focus for the Day!
Pray for God to open doors to the New Life family to demonstrate hospitality to strangers at worship, in our community and in the homes of our participants!

Today’s Challenge:  I will thank God for the opportunity to welcome strangers into my life and pray for them to come to know Him!

Friday

Reflection on The Play Book:  Hebrews 13:3 NLT
3Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies.

Have you ever visited anyone in prison?  If so, what was it like?  If not, how can you fulfill this command, even if you haven’t visited there?

What would it be like to remember someone in prison “as if you were there yourself”?

The Game Plan:  Take a Knee!  Prayer Focus for the Day!
Pray for anyone you know who is in prison right now, for whatever reason.  Pray for God to touch their hearts and let them know His love and salvation through Jesus.

Today’s Challenge:  I will put forth an effort either to visit someone in prison, or to pray for someone who is there, and also for those who serve as guards and workers in prisons!

Saturday

Reflection on The Play Book:  Hebrews 13:3 NLT
3Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies.

Who would you include among those who are being “mistreated”?  How do you remember them as if you felt their pain in your body?

What specific actions can you take right now to help one person you know who is being or has been mistreated?

The Game Plan:  Take a Knee!  Prayer Focus for the Day!
Take time to pray for people you know who are being mistreated, and to ask God to bring deliverance in their lives.

Today’s Challenge:  I will stand up for those around me who are being mistreated and, thus show the love of Jesus to them!
