The Game Plan: Indigenous Worship

To provide God-honoring worship in the language, music, technology and dress of the local community.

God's Word for You: 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 NLT

19Even though I am a free man with no master, I have become a slave to all people to bring many to Christ. 20When I was with the Jews, I lived like a Jew to bring the Jews to Christ. When I was with those who follow the Jewish law, I too lived under that law. Even though I am not subject to the law, I did this so I could bring to Christ those who are under the law. 21When I am with the Gentiles who do not follow the Jewish law, I too live apart from that law so I can bring them to Christ. But I do not ignore the law of God; I obey the law of Christ.
22When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. 23I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.

Monday

Reflection on The Play Book:  1 Corinthians 9:19
19Even though I am a free man with no master, I have become a slave to all people to bring many to Christ.

What does Paul’s willingness to be a “slave to all people to bring many to Christ” mean?

How will you apply this verse in daily life?

The Game Plan:  Take a Knee!  Prayer Focus for the Day!
Pray for God to bring people into your circle of influence today, who don’t know Jesus and who need to experience His love in a way that they can understand!

Pray that God will use you to bring His love to those people in a way they can understand!

Today’s Challenge:  I will meet people where they are instead of seeking to have them meet me on my terms!

Tuesday

Reflection on The Play Book:  1 Corinthians 9:20
20When I was with the Jews, I lived like a Jew to bring the Jews to Christ. When I was with those who follow the Jewish law, I too lived under that law. Even though I am not subject to the law, I did this so I could bring to Christ those who are under the law.

Who are the people who are “under the law” in our day?

What does it look like to live as they live in everyday situations?

The Game Plan:  Take a Knee!  Prayer Focus for the Day!
Pray for God to give you the opportunity to share the new life of Jesus with someone who is stuck in a traditional model of religion.

Pray that God will give you His compassion in that situation!

Today’s Challenge:  I will show Jesus’ love in practical ways to those who see religion as a set of rules instead of a life-giving relationship!

Wednesday

Reflection on The Play Book:   1 Corinthians 9:21
21When I am with the Gentiles who do not follow the Jewish law, I too live apart from that law so I can bring them to Christ. But I do not ignore the law of God; I obey the law of Christ.

What does it mean to live “apart from the law” but to “not ignore the law of God”?

What does this tell us about how serious Paul was to reach lost people?

The Game Plan:  Take a Knee!  Prayer Focus for the Day!
Pray for God to give you the opportunity to interact with “pagans” today, that is with people who are far from God and who don’t have any religious “wrapper” that surrounds their lives.

Pray for God to give you wisdom to speak into these people’s lives in a way that will show them Jesus.

Today’s Challenge:  I will live the light of Jesus among those who are walking in darkness!

Thursday

Reflection on The Play Book:  1 Corinthians 9:22
22When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some.

What does Paul’s final statement in verse 22 tell us about his understanding of whether everyone WILL come to salvation?

Why do you think Paul would have this understanding?

The Game Plan:  Take a Knee!  Prayer Focus for the Day!
Continue to pray for your list of “lost” people, and ask God to give you opportunities to present Jesus’ salvation to them!

Pray for God to open doors for you and others who are part of New Life to tell all kinds of people about Jesus in the days ahead.

Today’s Challenge:  I will do all I can to offer Jesus to people today!

Friday

Reflection on The Play Book:  1 Corinthians 9:23
23I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.

How could Paul say that he does “everything” to spread the Good News and share in its blessings?

What does that mean in everyday terms?

The Game Plan:  Take a Knee!  Prayer Focus for the Day!
Pray for God to use your thoughts, words and actions to show Jesus to others.

Pray for God to work in every person who is part of New Life to reach out to as many people as possible in ways that will be meaningful to them, so they will come to know Jesus.

Today’s Challenge:   I will do everything I can to show others Jesus in ways that will connect with them!

Saturday

Reflection on The Play Book: 1 Corinthians 9:23
23I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.

What are the blessings of the Good News in everyday life?

How have you experienced those blessings in your life?

The Game Plan:  Take a Knee!  Prayer Focus for the Day!
Pray for God to draw dozens of new people to New Life through our indigenous worship services.

Ask God to show you ways that you can help people to experience Jesus through you.

Today’s Challenge:  I will invite someone to worship with us at New Life!
